Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, recently appointed game master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with rich lore, a colorful mix of characters, and a gripping narrative showcasing angels, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure follow below.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a major cliffhanger and revealed the premier party of characters who will split off from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, separate from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the agile character (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Why Split the Party?

Given an extensive roster, it was clear from the outset that keeping everyone at a single group would be impossible.

This explains, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, weaving together the characters’ stories before splitting into three separate parties: Soldiers, Schemers, and Questers.

The Nature of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for participants who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear mismatched, but the developments of the latest installment demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to head next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

A former ally of the deceased character—whose demise started the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his own means, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to dispose of.

The traitor then cleared his obligations and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and closest confidant, desires revenge.
  • Kattigan has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • Tyranny and The cleric, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the powerful family could assist the party access areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, The grateful character vowed a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Finally, all of them are sought by the powers that govern the setting for a range of causes, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The hero are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The healer betrayed the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the clan.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.

Future Episodes

Based on the latest episode’s Cooldown, we find out that the warrior group won’t be around next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to round up the Seekers and Schemers parties.

Fans can anticipate finding out which characters will be in which group in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on the upcoming Thursday.
